It’s hard not to get your hopes up, even when you know you’ll be crushed if you do and things don’t turn out.

Mr Nikki has a phone interview on Wednesday, for the mysterious JOB IN SEATTLE.  And the person he’s interviewing with is someone that he interviewed with before, when they were at another company, and they wanted to hire him then, too.

If I had a magic 8 ball, it would say “All signs point to yes.”

Seattle has been everywhere lately.  One of the people that I trained in an online class the other week randomly mentioned being from Seattle.  And I just discovered a new blog to add to my reader, courtesty of Velvet, who is in Seattle.  AND I said that it’s sure to happen, because the timing will mess up any plans we could possibly make about that honeymoon in Iceland.  Ah, well.  So very worth it.

And really, it would be cruel to dash my hopes – especially now that I’ve started knitting again, feverishly, in anticipation.  Since moving to LA, I’ve barely knitted.  I mean, what’s the fun of new gloves & mittens and scarves here?  I haven’t even been able to work up much enthusiasm for knitting tiny little baby things.  To me, knitting is about – say it with me now, my apparent favorite word – cozy. Plus, when I tried to pick up a project that I’ve been working on for at least a year now, the huge pile of heavy wool/alpaca in my lap made me sweat and stuck to my legs.

But now! Now I have gray mornings and hopes of Seattle!  I’ve picked up knitting again, with a vengeance – it takes a day or two to make a pair of baby socks and I just found this site (via a recommendation on Twitter) which has exactly the kind of baby patterns (and others) that I’ve been looking for.  I haven’t been all that happy with most of the patterns I’ve found, and I’ve been kind of bored with knitty.com lately – and is it just me, or do many of the pattern books out there use some not-so-cute babies in the pictures?  (C’mon, it’s ok to admit that not all babies are cute.)  But how cute is this kid?  And the sweater?  I just ordered a ton of yarn from them (it’s nearly as cheap as knitpicks) and printed out a ton of patterns.  Plus, now I can make new scarves for me and Mr Nikki’s first pair of hand-knit gloves.

Last week, I finally got over the feeling of guilt about being lazy right now, too.  I figure, might as well enjoy it for the next month and a half, cause then all hell is breaking loose.  *smile*  I was swamped with work for a month or so – now I just have a couple of classes to keep up with and a trickle of work.  And like I said… these lovely gray mornings… so I get up, drink some tea, check in with email, get a few hours of work done, and then sit on the couch and knit.  Some baking, yoga, errands in between, but mostly I’m… well, I guess I’m getting into nesting mode, it would seem.  And it’s finally cooled down enough that I can start walking again (assuming I’ve seen the chiropractor recently, cause DAMN.  My only complaint about pregnancy is the exacerbation of my already very existent back problems.)

Lastly, again I am reminded of how incredibly useful & fun it is to find new blogs to read & “meet” new people online.  All the books, etc I’ve read have talked about having a stockpile of take-out menus for once the baby is born, because obviously, you won’t be doing a lot of grocery shopping & cooking at first.  But “takeout menus” to me are gross.  Not the healthiest option, in my opinion.  So I’ve been searching for a grocery delivery service – either one from an organic place or one where I can choose where to get groceries from and dmoms mentioned spud.com. Luckily, they deliver in LA, too and they are exactly what I’ve been looking for.  Thought I’d share, in case anyone else might be looking for something similar.

glad you like reading dmoms!! she’s cool. we actually grew up together in michigan, back in the day – she lived down the street (well, technically dirt road – we both lived on farms!) and was like an older sister to me for years. so finding her online a couple years ago was really cool 🙂
