They say you don’t know what you got till it’s gone, but I’ve found the inverse can also be true – you don’t know what you didn’t have till you have it.
Err… what I’m trying to say is that I didn’t realize just HOW unhappy I was in LA until we moved up here. We have so much here, more than we ever could have have in LA. For the amount of money we paid for this 5 bedroom house with a kick-ass kitchen, a backyard (our own private forest), incredible windows looking out on said forest, a 2 car garage and all the street parking we can handle – PLUS I can walk him to school and he can ride his bike around our neighborhood, safely – for the same amount, in LA, we could have gotten a tiny, crappy little apartment/condo with barely two bedrooms and not in any neighborhood we really liked.
The rain & the gray days make me so happy. The idea of curling up on our couch, looking out at rain creeping in through those ginormous pine trees, with Felix in my lap & a cup of something hot on the coffee table gives me so many happy little goosebumps and I can hardly stand it.
We go out driving on weekends & check out different neighborhoods & sights. We especially love being on the bays – all my life I’ve loved and been obsessed with boats, wharfs, ports, and harbors. Once upon a time, I wanted to live on a house boat. I need water. Serious water with a blue collar attitude.
Today, we left Nugget with my parents and ran out for brunch at the Bay Cafe, on Salmon Bay, at the Fisherman’s Terminal. Mmm… diner. Ooooh…REAL working fishing boats and a fisherman’s memorial (to commemorate those who’ve lost their lives at sea.) There’s something about wandering slowly, up and down a pier, on a gray & misty early afternoon. There’s something about this place that makes me feel like this is the place for me. For both of us. For all three of us.
I, of course, forgot my camera when we went to brunch – stupid, stupid, stupid! I should always have my camera on my around here! So I just got a few shots with my iPhone (lame), but you’ll get the idea. We’ll definitely be going back here, too, with my camera, for some proper pics.
pretty awesome photo from the iPhone! just look at that moody sky…
