control

I read this post, from The Midwife Next Door, awhile back.  It’s titled, “Are Women Who Choose Home Birth Control Freaks?

I’ll let the post speak for itself, but uh… short answer?  No.

I chose home birth, not to be in control, but to prevent a lot of unnecessary pain & intervention.  I wanted to not view birth as a scary thing – I wanted to approach it as the amazing, wonderful, life changing event that it was.  I also wanted to be fully present and to remind myself that I could do something like that.  I felt like a fucking rockstar after Felix’s birth.  And, ya know what?  It was so comfortable & cozy to be in my own home, to not have to worry about packing a bag for the hospital, wondering what to wear, to be able to hang out in the living room with my husband & the midwife and her assistants, eating quiche, after Felix was born.  There’s still a faint stain on our mattress now (the only remnant) and it amuses me every time I see it.
