even better than the real thing

I went old skool today. I’d left my laptop at home because it would be nearly impossible to carry both my laptop AND a 17lb child through the airport.  And it’s been killing me.  I’ve been itching to get this “faces of raw milk” site up and running.  I’ve also been soliciting for submissions and many people are waiting until the site is up to announce it on their own blogs.  Chomp chomp chomping at the bit.

I couldn’t wait until I got home.  I handed over the Nugget to my parents, sat down on their old computer with the sloooooow internet connection, broke out notepad for some hand-coding, and got started.

For now, I have a temporary home page up, and a blog for posting submissions.  It doesn’t look all that nice yet, but that will just have to wait until I get home.  I also plan on including a resources page – a list of links for information about raw milk, etc and where you can go to take action.  I’ll also be linking to The Farm to Consumer Defense League Fund, who is doing a “faces of farmers.”

Please feel free to send me your submissions NOW.  I’m about to post photos of Nugget in a couple minutes – the more photos & videos, the better.

This is fun.  Exciting, even.  I just got word that I MIGHT be getting a year’s worth of online training work, twice a week, every other week.  And then in between all that, I’ll be able to focus on Nugget & this new project.  It’s so important to me for him to grow up with this, to see how important it is to fight for what you believe in, to support farmers and to care about what you eat.  He is, truly, the greatest motivation I’ve ever had in my life.

And if you have any suggestions, send ’em over!  I may be delusional, but I’m really hoping to make this a big, big thing – in which case, I might ask other people to canvas for submissions where they are and then see if you might like a username & password to help me post?

There are some asshats out there who say that raw milk drinkers are “cult-like.”  It’s not so much about the raw milk for me as it is about the right to make informed decisions about what I eat, and to have access to whole foods that are, truly, safe to consume.  The FDA has been in charge of making these decisions for us for awhile now, and look where that’s gotten us.  Bagged, industrial spinach makes people sick.  GMO foods that are NOT safe for human consumption.  Tasteless, unsafe, industrial meats & poultry.  In theory, did you know that they warn against FRESH ORANGE JUICE, too?  It’s unpasteurized and deemed unsafe.  Fresh, as in, it’s been squeezed and handed right over to you (not “fresh squeezed” like that crap you buy at the grocery store from Tropicana.)  How ridiculous is that?  But, indeed, if they hada their way, you wouldn’t be able to get fresh squeezed orange juice at farmer’s markets or at that cute little cafe for brunch on Sunday morning.
