A good book I just started reading:
Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers
Also, I have such an incredible lactation consultant. She’s got an amazing bedside manner, she’s upbeat & positive and she makes you feel like anything is possible. She has 5 kids of her own (all breastfed, most home birthed, one unassisted) and she is truly dedicated. She calls to check in on us constantly, and comes by nearly every other day.
If you need someone, she’s in LA and I’d happily pass along her info (as well as the midwives, Doula, etc.) However, if you’re NOT in LA and need someone to help out with lactation, she’s got connections all over & works with La Leche occasionally. I’d also be happy to ask her for recommendations in other cities (she’s gathering a list of contacts for me in Seattle).
Kim, my lactation magician, works with the midwife group – they all work for a whole birthing/wellness center, and they also run a series of groups and classes. Kim, in particular, runs a weekly new mom’s group as well as a monthly breastfeeding support group. That’s another suggestion, if you’re looking for someone – see if there’s any groups in the area (this monthly one is only $20 to attend and the weekly mom’s group is free.)
