short bio – week 1 (Berlin Honors)

My name is Nikki Hegstrom. I returned to school last year to finish my degree and am working towards my B.A. in Comparative History of Ideas (CHID) with Honors. I have been working in web development for about 15 years, which I currently do freelance, though my desire is to work within the global community in a non profit or other organization that serves Humanitarian needs. In the last year, I have been diving into studies on migration and displacement as well as learning Arabic and German. I am also very interested in urban spaces and the idea of ownership of space (particularly the possessiveness that cultures and countries have over space and borders but also within smaller spaces such as urban public spaces). I lived abroad for a few years where I taught English (I have a Trinity Certificate in TESOL from Oxford TEFL Prague) to adults and children both within large companies and private lessons.
