I don’t like being pressed for answers to questions that start with something like, “Name one…” or “If you could only have one/listen to one/watch one/eat one…” I don’t do “ones.” I can’t choose one of anything and I refuse to live in a world where I can only eat/listen/watch/read one.
But if you pushed and pushed and pushed and insisted I answer, I might say Gotan Project is my favorite group. (But don’t push any further and demand a favorite cd.)
I’ve listened to them for years (I got hooked when I first heard them in the movie, The Truth About Charlie in 2002. I’ve downloaded every single cd, song, remix, collaboration I can get my hands on since that day. (Then I realized, I have no idea what these guys look like. So today I looked, and – what a sexy bunch!)
Listen to them, download them, sample them. Any album, any song. Guaranteed to fit any situation or mood – sexy, sad, romantic, in the mood for adventure, cooking dinner, sitting at home by yourself knitting, dancing, whatever. It fits.
In fact, listening to them (combined with visiting Miami and going to this adorable little place called Tu Tu Tango with my friend, Maria), sparked a slow burning love of Tango. (Or maybe it was also in part my ongoing obsession and fantasies of South America. The passion! The ocean! The sun! The fresh mangoes!) In any case, I have a weekend alone (again, The Puppy must attend to family matters) and I’ve just downloaded lots of new music – including Tango from the likes of Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla. I will spending at least a few hours a day with the ‘pod plugged in, pumping out Argentinian rhythms and pretending I’m south of the equator.
Maybe I’ll make a daiquiri and rent The Tailor of Panama.
