I hadn’t yet given a full listen to the new Bonobo album yet, but Mr Nikki put one of the tracks, Stay the Same, into a mix for me and it’s been a long time since I heard lyrics that got under my skin like these:
“A night train. / Midnight. / Bags gathered ’round my feet. / Possession. / Some lesson, to carry with me. / Heavy. / Soothing. / Like a gentle symphony. / I rest my head right back upon my seat. / It’s hot and cold though — the best thing for me. / This train is, moving. / But my heart is stationary… Seasons change, it’ll never be the same. / I hope I will be the same…”
Reminds me of a different time, riding trains through Europe, alone, lessons learned & things carried with me that I don’t want to forget. A time when I was always on the run and reminding me of how much work it still takes sometimes, to be still.
